An extensive, scalable and flexible range
London 09/06/08 – Lanode, leading provider of networking equipment and consultancy, announces the launch of the FRM220 series of fibre media converters. The FRM220 range is comprised of two chassis options and a range of standalone or slide-in line cards designed to convert Ethernet, voice and Serial interfaces to fibre. This converter range is ideal in metro LAN, campus, enterprise and FTTx applications, as it can be used to integrate legacy infrastructures and extend transmission distances up to 120Km.
One of the most extensive product suites available
The range of line cards and supported technologies available in this product family is one of the most extensive on the market. Fibre converter cards available in the range include: POTS, Serial, Gigabit Ethernet and Fast Ethernet among others. The FRM220 is set apart from the competition as it allows placement of mixed services in the same chassis. This saves valuable rack space and allows customers to buy into one solution that can be extended.
Managed or unmanaged; a scalable solution
The FRM220 range provides two chassis options: managed or unmanaged. The managed option is a 2U, 19”, rack-mountable, 20 slot chassis, with SNMP. In-band management provides both local and remote control over all converter settings including duplex and speed configuration. All critical components in this chassis are hot-swappable. The unmanaged option is an 8 slot, 2U, 9.5” chassis that can be stacked in tandem to fit a 2U, 19” rack space, ideal for medium density applications.
Providing the option of managed or unmanaged chassis, the FRM220 range is suitable for all levels of customer requirement from economy to carrier-class. In addition to chassis options, the FRM220 provides the option of rack-mount or standalone line card versions, enabling client builds to be specific to individual needs.
Advanced features
The FRM220 is equipped with a range of carrier-class features including bandwidth control, support for jumbo packets and Fibre Hardware Reset (FHR) to name a few. Rate limiting enables carriers and service providers to maximise ROI and drive new revenue through moderating client bandwidth provision. Network efficiencies can be increased using 9K jumbo packets. FHR allows for individual devices to be remotely reset, minimising network downtime. The FRM220 range also has Power over Ethernet (PoE) enabled standalone modules. The unique utilization of PoE eliminates the need for any additional power source as these devices are capable of drawing power from any PoE enabled Ethernet switch.
To celebrate the launch of the FRM220 range Lanode are giving away a free chassis with every 10 cards purchased before 31/08/08.
