LONDON, 3 April 2007 – Lanode a leading provider of network equipment, consultancy and deployment services, announced today the availability of a new Ethernet media converter. The FIB-10/100POF has the ability to convert from a 10/100BaseTX copper interface to 100BaseFX fibre interface using the latest plastic optical fibre (POF). The FIB-10/100POF and the POF cable solution is light, easy to install, and is ideal for the latest converged triple play applications, which include data, VoIP, and IPTV.

Plastic optical fibre offers affordable, high-end connectivity for office, home, or industrial networks because of its ruggedness, its immunity to electromagnetic interference, and low cost. The FIB-10/100POF uses the SMI (Small multimedia Interface) connector for use alongside 1mm plastic fibre and has the ability to drive 100Mbps Optical signals up to 50m. The advantages to professional installers and amateur DIY users are numerous. POF cabling solutions are the way forward because of their many uses, simple deployment, and ease of maintenance.

Ian Philip, Technical Manager Lanode, said, “POF is a viable alternative to copper wire used in traditional networks, as confirmed by industry experts who agree that there is a great future for POF solutions. The longevity of FIB-10/100POF is certain as a reliable and future-proof triple play solution.”
